At Fusion MMA & Kickboxing in Port Jefferson Station, we believe that martial arts isn’t just about punches and kicks — it’s about community, character, and local connection. That’s why we’re so pleased to be an active member of the Port Jefferson Station/Terryville Chamber of Commerce (you can check our listing here). As a local gym that’s served members around Brookhaven, Setauket and beyond, aligning with the chamber gives us a way to give back and stay rooted in our neighborhood.
The Chamber does more than networking lunches and business cards — they organize signature events that bring our hamlet together and build local pride. Some of those include:
An annual Casino Night fundraiser, held at the Polish Hall in PJS, which attracts local businesses and residents alike.
The Open Mic Day at Train Car Park, where local musicians get a stage and families come out to enjoy summer evening music.
A Menorah Lighting ceremony during Hanukkah at the community corner in Port Jefferson Station — bringing diverse groups together in holiday spirit.
“Family Fun Day” with vendors, performances, games at the Train Car Park area — the chamber’s effort to create inclusive fun for all ages.
These are the kinds of events we love supporting — they connect us beyond the gym floor and help local families, businesses and organisations mingle, celebrate and grow.
When we joined the chamber, our goal wasn’t just visibility — it was contribution. Here’s how our partnership plays out:
Giving local youth more options — By attending/opening at chamber-events, we’re making kids and parents aware that there’s a safe, positive activity in town (martial arts, fitness, self-defense) beyond just typical recreation.
Supporting other local businesses — The same businesses that send us members also organize chamber events. It’s a two-way street. We show up for them; they support us.
Hosting mini-community efforts at the gym — We’ve organized small demos, drop-in nights, or open-house events tied to chamber happenings (for example around holiday-period events when the chamber is active).
Maintaining local relevance — Being in Port Jefferson Station means our gym stays connected to what the town itself is doing. The chamber’s calendar keeps us in the loop. For example, we monitor events posted on the chamber site.
Because of our membership and partnership:
We’re better plugged into town-wide offerings — families who belong to the gym also hear about local festivals, open-mics, and holiday events.
We may host special promotions or “community partner” nights around chamber events (e.g., offer a free trial week during a chamber-sponsored family day).
You get peace of mind knowing your gym is local, invested, and part of a broader community ecosystem.
We’re excited to continue partnering with the chamber on upcoming events. In the next few months we’ll look at joining or supporting:
Any summer/fall open-mic or family day events hosted by the chamber.
Holiday-season gatherings (menorah lighting, holiday festivals) where we might offer a mini-self-defense demo or fitness showcase at the gym or at the event.
Networking nights for local business owners where we can connect you (our members) to other supportive local services (nutrition coaches, physical therapists, youth-programs).
If you’re a member of Fusion and have ideas for how we can show up at a town event, or you’d like to invite friends or family from the community who are curious about martial arts — we’re ready. Let us know.
Thank you to the entire Port Jefferson Station / Terryville community and especially to the chamber for creating the kind of environment where local businesses thrive and residents benefit. We’re proud to be part of it — hope to see you at one of the events or at the gym soon.
